Do I need a Referral?

A referral from your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician is required if a) you qualify for a Mental Health Care Plan and b) wish to receive a rebate from Medicare for each session (generally $124.50 per consult). However, for a non-Medicare session a referral is not required. You may be eligible for a rebate through your private health insurance depending on your premium for a privately paid consultation.

How long is each session?

Sessions are approximately 50-55 minutes long.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, all services at Parkside Psycholgy are confidential within limits. These limits are detailed under the National Standards of Practice for all Health Practitioners. Please feel free to discuss this with us in more detail.

How many sessions am I entitled to?

If you qualify for a Mental Health Care Plan developed by your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician (under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Scheme), you are eligible for a total of 10 sessions per calendar year.

After the first six sessions of the calendar year you will need to have a review with your GP to be granted the remaining four sessions for the year.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required varies according to each person's individual needs. After an initial consultation, we will be able to provide a general time frame which is open to review as treatment progresses.

The Medicare model supports a time limited approach, which aims to equip each person with practical techniques to improve general functioning, now and into the future. However, for some people additional sessions may be required and this can be discussed as needed.

What are your fees?

Parkside Psychology offers a Medicare rebate on referral from a GP of up to $124.50. For information on the Medicare co-payment please contact us.

What payment methods do you accept?

Can I claim through my private health insurer?
